When one bettor put $20,000 on Melvin Gordon to score a touchdown Thursday night at BetMGM, it seemed reasonable.
Gordon was getting +200 odds to score on Thursday night. He’s playing a little more than half of the snaps as the Denver Broncos’ starting running back, and while he had only two touchdowns in six games, there can be a lot of variance with touchdowns. Maybe he was even due.
Then the Broncos scored no points with just two first downs in the first half. Not good if you have $20,000 on the Broncos running back to score a touchdown.
Then the Broncos came alive to start the second half. They got inside the Browns’ 10, but had a third-and-goal. Then Gordon went out on a flare route, shook free of a defender and did a great job to get his hand down and extend over the goal line.
The rush of winning $40,000 on a single touchdown must be amazing. One bettor felt it when the replay review confirmed that Gordon stayed up as he reached over the goal line with the ball.
The Broncos went on to lose 17-14. Their offense, on the whole, was terrible. But for one bettor, he or she got the one play that was worth $40,000.
